Moses Didn’t Pay Child Support
Zipporah learned the hard way first impressions, don’t paint a full picture. She didn’t know Moses was wanted for murder. All she knew, when they met, he had helped scare rustlers off her father’s ranch.
Her daddy, Rev. Jethro eventually took him in as a ranch hand and arranged for Moses and her to marry.
Anyway, they had two sons, Gershom, and Eliezer. But Moses didn’t help take care of either one. Not one dime did he send Zipporah for child support. The only father Gershom and Eliezer ever knew was hers.
In answering God’s call, he disconnected the line between his wife and sons. He never told her to her face why. So, Zipporah never had any answers for her sons who eventually stopped asking questions.
From time to time, she’d hear from her daddy, who for whatever reason kept up with Moses, the remarkable things he was doing for God and his people. Did he expect her to shout, “Praise the LORD!”
Well, once her daddy found out Moses was going to be in the area, he suggested a meet up with her and the boys, now practically grown.
But in the end only the Reverend went to meet him. Why would he expect hero’s welcome when he had put them through hell.
While Moses practically adopts Joshua; after this failed family reunion, other than named in a genealogical list in 1Chronicles 26:24-26, his sons disappear from the Word.
After Moses died, the nation he led mourned for 30 days but those he left behind and never fed, not one minute.
It makes you wonder after God told him to write: Honor your mother and father…Moses felt some kind of way.
