So, to go along, get ahead, and away from that ol’ time religion that didn’t feel good enough for him, Gideon’s daddy, Joe, joined First Baal Midian Church. He became friends with some of the members and started a business – building strip clubs. They were an instant success. Joe tried to talk his son into coming on board.
But Gideon preferred to work on the family farm.
One day, as he was working, God spoke to him and called him to lead his people in defeating the Midianites. Who me? Gideon asked. Who else? But first you must to show your commitment, I want you to burn down your daddy’s newest club.
Scared, Gideon did it, but forgot about the cameras.
Furious, their neighbors who were the main customers went to Joe’s house the next day. Good thing Joes was outside. Bring Gideon out, we need to talk to him.
Joe, always packing, reached behind him and told them, to get to him you gotta go through me. Since nobody had a taste for lead that day, they left.
And shortly so did Gideon, following God’s call, eventually becoming a general. Meanwhile, his daddy kept doing what he was doing ‘til it did him.
Daddy had told him some, but thanks to friends and relatives Gideon knew just about all; women and paternity tests …that he failed thankfully, but still, lawsuits, back taxes and so much more.
However, Gideon spoke nothing but praise at his funeral. Friends and relatives asked him about it afterwards.
He always tried to protect me. Yeah, you can say, Daddy never saw the light, but he saw who I was and wanted to be and never tried to stop me. Before he died, he whispered to me, I’m proud of you which I already knew.
I don’t care what anyone thinks of him. I’m older now, looking back, I realize what a blessing he was to me.
