She’s the big sister that forgets her siblings are grown and that she aint God. Meet Moses’ big sister Miriam. We know she positioned Moses to be rescued…however God ordered his steps.
After Pharaoh’s army got drowned in the Red Sea, Miriam, a prophet, started a praise team among the women in thankfulness.
You don’t hear about her until two years later. Moses is busy leading; Aaron is priesting and for whatever reason Miriam starts being messy. She draws in Aaron who can be talked into anything. And they put their mouth on Moses’ wife.
But running her down was just Miriam’s Klingon cloaking device to disguise the real issue – her being mad and jealous of her brother’s call and relationship with God.
Well, Moses shows up to see what’s going on. But God already knows and comes down from heaven to deal with the hell, the prophet Miriam’s stirring up. He aims his divine beatdown at them both but inflicts his judgment at Miriam, leaving her with a disfiguring skin disease as jealousy and questioning God’s authority would.
The very one she was questioning and gossiping about; her brother, Moses, prayed for her. Answering Aarons plea and Moses’ prayer, God healed their big sister. Now, there’s nothing in the Word that says Miriam ever apologized to God and Moses. She was never heard from again until a brief obituary eight chapters later.
Unlike her two brothers, Miriam died in a desert. A prophet who couldn’t see that ignoring boundaries, meddling, and questioning God about what He’s doing in someone else’s life was stepping over the line that eventually led her over a cliff.
